How HTML Forms Work
Learn what an HTML form does with the data it collects.

Check out the new online business card form on vaweb at

vaweb.valinux.com/Training/cgi/bizcard.cgi

The Web server processes a form as follows:

  1. The user fills out the form and presses the submit button.
  2. Each data item is assigned a name.
  3. The data from all the form's fields is transferred from the client (the user's browser) to the server.
  4. The server passes the information on to a script on the Web server that manipulates it, stores it, or creates a Web page that is sent to the viewer's browser.
